Al Teharharu Acharei Rabbeinu! [Don't doubt our rabbi!] – printed poster by "Chabad Chassidim who judge favorably", regarding the visit of the Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch in Eretz Israel in 1929, and his meeting with Chief Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook. Jerusalem: Aviv, Batei Feingold, summer 1929.
Poster printed by the zealots of Orthodox Jewry in Jerusalem, around the time of the visit of the Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch in Jerusalem in 1929, and his meeting with R. Kook, which provoked a controversy over the course of those days. The present poster states that the Rebbe was compelled to "meet with many wicked men" for the sake of his mission on behalf of Russian Jews, and cites a purported letter to Agudat Yisrael stating that he would meet with "that man" [an epithet typically reserved for Jesus] and asks them to judge him favorably, as he is doing so in order to "save lives of Russian Jews".
A day or two after the present poster was printed, another poster, Hachchashah UMechaah (see Lot 177), was printed in Jerusalem by Merkaz Agudat Yisrael (3rd Av 1929), absolutely denying this report, stating that not a single word cited was written in the letter of the Rebbe Rayatz.
34.5X24.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains, wear and tears. Mounted on paper for preservation.
