Both letters are typewritten and signed by the two Chief Rabbis and head secretary R. Shmuel Aharon Shazuri.
In the first letter, addressed to R. Elyashiv, they write that in agreement with the Minister of Religion and the Rabbi of Jerusalem R. Tzvi Pesach Frank, they appoint R. Elyashiv as a substitute member of the Beit Din in Jerusalem.
In the second letter (the original copy sent to the Chief Rabbinate in Jerusalem), the rabbis write of the appointment of R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and R. Yosef Kapach (Qafih) as substitute members of the Beit Din of Jerusalem.

Two official letters from the Chief Rabbinate, signed by Chief Rabbis R. Yitzchak Eizik HaLevi Hertzog and R. Yitzchak Nissim, appointing R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv as member of the Dayanim Examination Committee. Jerusalem, Elul 1955 and Iyar 1957.
The first letter is addressed to the three members of the council: R. Yaakov Ades, head of the Beit Din of Jerusalem; R. Yitzchak Meir Ben Menachem, head of the Petach Tikva Beit Din; and R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, member of the Supreme Rabbinical Court. [Notably, although the original appointment to the Supreme Rabbinical Court was only made in Tevet Iyar 1956, after a decision made in Elul 1955 – see previous lot – the present letter reveals that R. Elyashiv had already previously served as member of the court].
The second letter of 1957 is addressed only to R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, mentioning that the other members of the committee are R. Yaakov Hadas [Ades], R. Eliezer Goldschmidt and R. Shlomo Shimshon Karelitz.
Both letters are typewritten and signed by both Chief Rabbis, and the first is also signed by head secretary R. Shmuel Aharon Shazuri.

Letter handwritten and signed by R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv. Jerusalem, 12th Tamuz 1984.
Addressed to his friend, "the great Gaon" R. Chaim Kreiswirth, Rabbi of Antwerp, then head of the International Committee on Conversion. In the years 1983-1984, fierce rabbinical opposition arose against dedicated courts of conversion established by the Chief Rabbinate, on the grounds that they performed invalid conversions, accepting converts who did not take upon themselves mitzvah observance and Jewish faith. R. Chaim Kreiswirth and other rabbis then issued a halachic ruling that documents of conversion of the Israeli Chief Rabbinate are not to be relied upon unless the conversion is determined to have been performed correctly. In the present letter, R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv supports R. Kreiswirth, protesting the treatment of the protesting rabbis at the hands of the Rabbinate.
R. Elyashiv sharply criticizes the Chief Rabbinate's "conversion factories". Rather than examining the allegations, the Rabbinate demanded that the claims be retracted and sharply criticized those who publicized them.
R. Elyashiv attempts to encourage R. Kreiswirth, who was attacked for taking a stand to support Judaism, stating his confidence that the aspersions against him should not affect him whatsoever and he should continue with his work. R. Elyashiv concludes the letter with blessings and his signature.
R. Yosef Shalom Elyashiv (1910-2012), only son of R. Avraham, a rabbi of Gomel (son-in-law of the Leshem) and son-in-law of the Tzaddik of Jerusalem, R. Aryeh Levin. From 1943 he served in his father's office as rabbi of Tiferet Bachurim in Jerusalem, and from 1951-1972 he served as a senior dayan on the Supreme Rabbinical Court. In 1972 he resigned from his position on the court as a result of R. Goren's appointment as Chief Rabbi of Israel, the controversy surrounding R. Goren's conversion of Helen Zeidman and his attempt to free a brother and sister of mamzer status. R. Elyashiv later worked together with R. Chaim Kreiswirth of Antwerp, establishing the International Committee on Conversion, which employed distinguished rabbis worldwide to stand against fictitious conversions that did not meet the requirements of halachah.
R. Elyashiv was a leading posek for over seventy years. He was known for his exceptional diligence and his deep, fundamental understanding of all parts of the Torah, enabling him provide clear rulings on every issue. Over his last twenty years, he led the Torah world in Eretz Israel and beyond. The present letter was published in several places, including: Kovetz Teshuvot V, section 158; Kitvuni LeDorot, letter 211; HaShakdan, III, pp. 155-157 (with facsimile of letter).

Letter of Rebbe Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch. Brooklyn, New York, 4th Tevet 1944.
Typewritten on the Rebbe Rayatz's official stationery, with his signature: "Yosef Yitzchak".
The letter discusses the English translation of his memoirs, Sefer HaZichronot (the first part of the book was first published in Yiddish in 1941-1942 by writer and journalist David Leib Meckler in the Morgen Zhurnal; the English translation was published as a book in 1949).
The Rebbe expresses his immense satisfaction that the recipient's wife agreed to translate the Zichronot into English, and blesses her with her physical and spiritual needs.

The Rebbe Rayatz also discusses his plans to write further parts of the book – a second part on R. Baruch, estimated to fill an entire book, and a third part on the life of the Alter Rebbe, his childhood, youth, marriage and Mezeritch period.
At the end of the letter, the Rebbe advises publishing the biography of the Alter Rebbe in brief as is, while noting that supplements were planned.
